About

Hello, I'm Amy!

I started Amy Ceramics in January 2021 - like many small businesses, it was born off the back of lockdown, however it came about in a slightly different way. I took a ceramics course after lockdown as a present to myself for working on a covid ward. At the time I was working as a healthcare assistant, but had a background of an art degree and wanted to continue my creative practice. I’d always wanted to try pottery, and it was motivation to push through. When I finished working on the covid ward, I booked into a 4 week course and instantly fell in love. From then, I was going back to the studio weekly for practice sessions before finally joining my current studio in 2022.

The theme behind all of my work is joy and happiness. I want them all to feel like really special pieces that can be kept forever, but also still used every day. I’ve also combined my love of pottery with my love of illustration, adding cute creatures and colourful fruit paintings on with underglaze. Every piece is dipped into shiny transparent glaze to make the pieces look sleek, clean, and to keep them super practical, food safe and waterproof.

I now work full time as an A&E nurse, but spent most of my days off at the studio making and creating functional, sustainable and pretty pieces.

I hope you love the pieces as much as I love making them!
